Air Fryer Onion Rings Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 large sweet onions
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons Kosher salt
- Creamy dipping sauce
for serving, optional
- Honey mustard
for serving, optional
- Ketchup
for serving, optional
Directions
- 1
Gather the ingredients.
- 2
Position a rack in the center of the oven and heat to 200 F.
- 3
Cut off both ends of the onions and peel off the skin.
- 4
Slice the onions into thick rings.
- 5
Carefully separate the rings from each other. Save the innermost rings for another recipe. If the rings break, you can still use them.
- 6
Prepare the 3 dredging bowls. Put the flour in 1 shallow bowl. Beat the eggs and milk in another shallow bowl. Add the panko breadcrumbs to a third shallow bowl. In a separate small bowl, mix the smoked paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, and salt, then divide the mixture evenly among the 3 bowls. Whisk each bowl to disperse the seasonings.
- 7
Dip the onion rings in the flour first. Completely coat both sides of the rings and the inner portion.
- 8
Dip the flour-coated rings into the egg mixture. Make sure to completely coat them with the egg so you cannot see any of the flour. You may need to flip the rings a few times.
- 9
Dip the rings in the breadcrumb mixture. To thoroughly coat them, use your fingers to press the breadcrumbs onto the rings.
- 10
Generously spray the inside of the air fryer with cooking spray. Carefully place a single layer of the onion rings into the air fryer and spray the tops with cooking spray. Cook on 375 F for 10 minutes, flipping each ring halfway through the cooking time.
- 11
Transfer the first batch to a baking sheet and place in the oven to keep warm. Cook the second batch of rings. Serve with creamy dipping sauce, honey mustard, and ketchup if desired.

About this Recipe
Craving that perfectly crispy, golden-brown onion ring experience without the greasy aftermath? This Air Fryer Onion Rings Recipe delivers all the crunch and flavor you desire, using significantly less oil than traditional deep frying.
This recipe works wonders because the air fryer's circulating hot air creates an incredibly crispy and crunchy texture that's indistinguishable from your favorite restaurant version. By coating the sweet onions with a seasoned panko breading, you get an extra layer of irresistible crispness that holds up beautifully, avoiding any sogginess.
Prepare for a batch of onion rings that boast a delightful contrast: a tender, sweet onion interior encased in an exceptionally crunchy, savory crust. The combination of smoked paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder in the panko breadcrumbs infuses each ring with a warm, aromatic flavor that's utterly addictive. You'll find yourself reaching for these as a satisfying snack or the perfect side to your favorite meal.
Customization & Serving
Feel free to experiment with the seasoning blend; a pinch of cayenne pepper could add a touch of heat, or you could swap the smoked paprika for regular paprika if you prefer a milder flavor. While sweet onions are called for, feel free to try other onion varieties for a different flavor profile. For dipping, the options are endless beyond the suggested creamy dipping sauce, honey mustard, and ketchup—think sriracha mayo or a tangy barbecue sauce.
These Air Fryer Onion Rings are the ultimate crowd-pleasing appetizer, a fantastic side for burgers and sandwiches, or simply a delicious snack to enjoy on their own. They're best served immediately for peak crispness.
