Apple Pudding Cake with Cinnamon Butter Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup butter
softened
- 1 egg
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups finely chopped peeled apples such as Braeburn
Granny Smith, Rome, or Fuji, 2 medium
- 1/3 cup butter
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup half-and-half or heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
- 1
Preheat oven to 350°F.
- 2
Grease bottom and sides of 8-inch square pan with shortening or cooking spray.
- 3
In large bowl, mix brown sugar and softened butter with spoon until light and fluffy. Beat in egg. Stir in flour, baking soda, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, the nutmeg and salt. Stir in apples. The batter will be really thick. Spread batter in pan.
- 4
Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. The cake is dark brown in color.
- 5
Meanwhile in a saucepan, heat sauce ingredients over medium heat, stirring frequently, until butter is melted and sauce is hot. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Serve a drizzle of warm sauce over warm cake. There's enough sauce for even a double batch.
- 6
Tips: You can bake the cake and make the sauce a day ahead and store them separately (refrigerate sauce). Warm the sauce in a saucepan over low heat, and heat individual pieces of cake uncovered in the microwave on High for 25 to 35 seconds or until warm.

About this Recipe
Craving a cozy, comforting fall dessert that fills your home with irresistible aromas? This Apple Pudding Cake with Cinnamon Butter Sauce is the ultimate treat, bringing warmth and sweet spice to any occasion. It's a perfect dessert for cool evenings.
What sets this Apple Pudding Cake apart is the irresistible combination of tender, spiced apples baked into a moist cake, all drenched in a luscious, homemade cinnamon butter sauce. This recipe truly delivers on warmth and comforting flavors, making it a standout from ordinary apple desserts.
Prepare for a delightful sensory experience. Each bite offers the soft, moist texture of a home-baked cake studded with tender, sweet-tart apples like Braeburn or Granny Smith. The cake itself is gently spiced with a classic blend of cinnamon and nutmeg, creating a comforting foundation. But the real star is the velvety cinnamon butter sauce, which soaks into the cake, creating a truly pudding-like consistency that's rich, sweet, and utterly indulgent. With only 10 minutes of prep and 30 minutes of cook time, it's a wonderfully accessible dessert.
Feel free to experiment with your favorite apple varieties; a mix of sweet and tart like Fuji and Granny Smith can add depth. For the sauce, while half-and-half works beautifully, using heavy cream will yield an even richer, more luxurious texture. You could also lightly toast pecans or walnuts and sprinkle them over the top for added crunch and texture. While the recipe uses brown sugar in the cake and granulated sugar in the sauce, you can play with the balance if you prefer a less sweet dessert.
This Apple Pudding Cake with Cinnamon Butter Sauce is the quintessential dessert for chilly evenings, holiday gatherings, or simply when you need a little sweet comfort. Serve it warm on its own, or elevate it further with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream or a dollop of fresh whipped cream.
