A cozy, make-ahead biscuits and gravy casserole made with homemade sausage gravy, fluffy biscuits, eggs, and melted cheese — a Christmas morning family tradition that feeds a crowd with ease.

Ingredients

  • 1 lbbreakfast sausage
  • 2 tbspsalted butter
  • ¼ cupall purpose flour
  • 2 cupshalf and half
  • ½ tspslap ya mama cajun seasoning (optional )
  • 1 tspred pepper flakes
  • 8count pillsbury grands southern homestyle biscuits (or any brand that you like)
  • 6 largeeggs
  • ¼ tspslap ya mama or salt (to season the eggs)
  • ⅛ cupmilk
  • 1 ½ cupsshredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 ½ cupsshredded pepper jack cheese

Directions

    Brown sausage over medium heat. Remove half and set aside.

    Add butter to remaining sausage, then stir in the flour and cook 3 minutes to cook out the raw flour taste.

    Slowly whisk in half-and-half until thick and smooth. Season with the Slap Ya Mama, black pepper and red pepper flakes. (If you don't want to use the Slap Ya Mama, use salt instead)

    Cut biscuits into nine pieces each.

    Whisk eggs, milk, and seasoning together.

    Layer biscuits, reserved sausage, and 2 cups cheese in a greased 9×13 dish.

    Pour egg mixture over top, then spoon gravy on and finish with remaining cheese.

    Bake uncovered at 350°F for 35–40 minutes until set and cooked through.
