This Chicago Mild Sauce recipe is the best version out there to date. This sauce is known for its wonderful combination of tangy, sweet, and savory notes. It will undoubtedly light up your taste buds with flavor!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 tbsp distilled white vinegar
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tbsp hot sauce (like Tabasco)
  • 3 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt and pepper (or to taste)

Directions

  1. 1

In a medium saucepan, combine all the ingredients listed and mix them well. Add a small splash of water and mix.

  2. 2

Place the saucepan over medium heat. When it reaches a gentle simmer, reduce the heat to low. Let the sauce simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent it from burning at the bottom of the pan.

  3. 3

Perform taste tests and adjust the seasonings according to your preference. If you want a spicier sauce, you may add more cayenne pepper or hot sauce. For a milder version, reduce the amount of cayenne pepper and hot sauce or leave them out altogether.

  4. 4

Once you're satisfied with how the sauce tastes, turn off the heat and let it cool to room temperature. Then, pour the sauce into a jar or airtight glass/plastic container and refrigerate it for at least 2 hours to allow the flavors to infuse together.
