Ham & Swiss Hasselback Biscuit Bites

Featuring convenient canned biscuits stuffed with ham and cheese, these flaky, buttery bites will delight party guests and tailgaters alike.

Ingredients

  • 1 can of 8 biscuits

    16-oz.

  • 3 tbsp. Dijon mustard

    plus more for serving

  • 4 oz. Swiss cheese

thinly sliced, then cut into 1" squares

  • 4 oz. deli ham

preferably black forest, thinly sliced, then cut into 1" squares

  • 2 tbsp. unsalted butter

    melted

  • Kosher salt

    optional

Directions

  1. 1

Preheat oven to 350°. Spray a 24-cup mini muffin pan with cooking spray. Divide dough into 8 large biscuits. Using a sharp knife, cut each biscuit into 3 triangular sections for a total of 24.

  2. 2

Arrange one piece of dough with a long side facing you. Make 3 short deep cuts (like hash marks) across the top, positioning each cut about 1/4" apart from the next and cutting deeply but not all the way through.

  3. 3

Using a butter knife or offset spatula, spread some mustard inside cuts. Fold 1 piece of ham in half and stuff in center cut. Fold 1 piece of cheese in half and stuff in center cut beside ham. Repeat with 2 two side cuts. Place biscuit in a prepared muffin cup, ham and cheese side up. Repeat with remaining biscuits and fillings. Brush tops of biscuits with some butter; reserve remaining butter.

  4. 4

Bake biscuits until golden brown, 14 to 18 minutes. While still warm, brush with reserved butter and sprinkle with salt (if using). Serve warm with more mustard alongside, if desired.

About this Recipe

Looking for an effortless appetizer that consistently disappears first at every gathering? These Ham & Swiss Hasselback Biscuit Bites are your answer, offering a delightful combination of savory and tangy flavors in a flaky, buttery package.

Why This Recipe Works

This recipe shines by taking convenient canned biscuits and transforming them into something truly special with a clever "Hasselback" stuffing technique. The bold Dijon mustard perfectly complements the salty deli ham and creamy Swiss cheese, creating a harmonious flavor profile. It's an ingenious way to deliver sophisticated flavors with minimal effort, making it ideal for busy hosts.

What you'll experience are warm, flaky biscuit layers encasing a gooey, savory filling. Each bite offers a satisfying contrast between the rich butteriness of the biscuit and the sharp, tangy kick of Dijon mustard paired with the familiar comfort of ham and melted Swiss. This dish is designed to be approachable for any home cook, delivering maximum flavor impact with straightforward ingredients.

Customization & Variations

Feel free to experiment with your favorite flavors! Swap the Swiss cheese for Gruyère or sharp cheddar for a different cheesy note. Instead of black forest ham, try thinly sliced turkey or even pastrami. For a vegetarian option, consider roasted red peppers or spinach combined with a soft cheese like brie. A sprinkle of kosher salt over the melted butter before baking can enhance all the flavors.

Serve these warm, golden bites as a standout appetizer, a hearty breakfast side, or a delicious addition to your tailgating spread. They pair wonderfully with an extra dollop of Dijon mustard on the side for dipping.
