Irish Brown Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cupswhole wheat flour (or whole wheat pastry flour)
  • ½ cupall purpose flour
  • ½ cupsteel cut oats
  • 2 tablespoonbrown sugar
  • 1 tablespoonwheat germ or oat bran
  • 1 teaspoonbaking soda
  • 1 teaspoonbaking powder
  • ½ teaspoonsalt
  • 2 cupsbuttermilk (or make your own with 2 cups milk and 2 tb vinegar-let sit for 10 minutes)
  • 1egg, beaten

    Preheat oven to 325 degrees

    Spray bread loaf pan with non stick cooking spray

  4. 4

    In large mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour, all purpose flour, oats, brown sugar, oat/wheat bran, soda, baking powder and salt.

    Blend in buttermilk and egg and mix until blended.

    Add to loaf pan and smooth top.

    Bake for 45 minutes.
