Mountain Dew Apple Dumplings
Ingredients
- 2 large Granny Smith apples
peeled and cored
- 2 cans refrigerated crescent roll dough
10 ounce
- 3/4 cup butter
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 can or bottle Mountain Dew
12 fluid ounce
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla
Directions
- 1
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- 2
Cut each apple into 8 wedges, then set aside.
- 3
Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate into triangles. Roll each apple wedge in crescent roll dough starting at the smallest end. After wrapping dough around each apple slice, place the dumplings in the baking dish.
- 4
In a small saucepan, melt the butter and stir in the brown sugar. Continue cooking until it is well blended and thickens, stirring constantly. Then stir in the cinnamon and vanilla. Pour mixture over the apple dumplings.
- 5
Pour Mountain Dew(TM) around the dumplings. (Not on top of them!)
- 6
Bake for 35 to 45 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden brown.

About this Recipe

This recipe transforms simple ingredients into an extraordinary dessert experience. The convenience of refrigerated crescent roll dough means less fuss in the kitchen, making preparation a breeze. The secret weapon, Mountain Dew, baked into the rich sauce, adds a surprising bright tang and contributes to a beautifully caramelized glaze that sets these dumplings apart from traditional versions.
You're in for a treat with these Mountain Dew Apple Dumplings. Each bite offers a delightful contrast: the crisp, buttery flakiness of the crescent roll dough gives way to a perfectly tender, spiced Granny Smith apple filling. The rich, sweet sauce, infused with brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and a hint of vanilla, bakes into a bubbly, golden syrup that generously coats every piece. The distinct flavor of the Mountain Dew brightens the whole dish, balancing the sweetness with a subtle citrusy note, making for an incredibly comforting and satisfying dessert.
While Granny Smith apples are specified and ideal for their tartness to balance the rich sauce, you could experiment with other firm, crisp apple varieties for a slightly different flavor profile. For an extra layer of warmth, consider adding a pinch of ground nutmeg or a dash of allspice to your cinnamon mixture. Serve these delightful dumplings warm with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream or a dollop of fresh whipped cream for the ultimate indulgence.
These apple dumplings are a fantastic dessert for family gatherings, potlucks, or simply as a comforting treat on a cozy evening. Their unique flavor profile is sure to be a conversation starter and a new family favorite.
