About this Recipe
Craving a dynamic, flavor-packed dish that comes together faster than takeout? This Pad Kra Pao, a vibrant Thai Basil and Pork Stir-Fry, is your answer for an unforgettable weeknight meal.
What makes this recipe a true standout is its perfect balance of sweet, spicy, and savory notes, creating an incredibly addictive profile. With readily available ingredients and a mere 10-minute cook time, it's not just delicious, but also exceptionally affordable and quick, making it an instant family favorite.
Prepare yourself for a symphony of tastes that will awaken your palate. Each bite of this Thai Basil and Pork Stir-Fry delivers a savory richness from the pork, enhanced by the pungent aromatics of fresh garlic and the distinctive peppery sweetness of Thai basil. You'll experience a delightful interplay of sweetness from the sugar, umami depth from oyster and fish sauces, and a gentle, building heat if you opt for the chili pepper. The overall texture is satisfyingly robust, begging to be spooned generously over a mound of steaming rice.
This versatile dish welcomes your personal touch. While ground pork is traditional, feel free to swap in ground chicken for a lighter alternative without sacrificing flavor. If fresh Thai basil is hard to find, regular basil can be used in a pinch, though the authentic peppery kick will be milder. For those who love heat, don't shy away from adding the chilli pepper to your desired spice level, or omit it entirely for a milder experience. And for the ultimate indulgence, a fried egg with a runny yolk makes a fantastic topping, adding richness to every bite.
Pad Kra Pao is famously known as a "rice killer," meaning it pairs perfectly with a generous bowl of plain white rice to soak up every last drop of its incredible sauce. It's an ideal choice for a quick, satisfying weeknight dinner that feels like a special treat.
