For an outstanding peach crumble, use the ripest, most juicy peaches you can find. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

  • 6 cupssliced peeled ripe peaches
  • ¼ cuppacked brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoonsall-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoonlemon juice
  • ½ teaspoongrated lemon zest
  • ½ teaspoonground cinnamon

  • 1 cupall-purpose flour
  • 1 cupsugar
  • 1 teaspoonbaking powder
  • ¼ teaspoonsalt
  • ¼ teaspoonground nutmeg
  • 1 largeegg, lightly beaten
  • ½ cupbutter, melted and cooled
  • vanilla ice cream, optional

Directions

    Preheat the oven to 375°F. Grease a 2-1/2 quart Dutch oven, cast-iron pan or ovenproof baking dish, then layer in the peeled peaches.

    In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, flour, lemon juice, lemon zest and cinnamon. Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the peaches.

    Combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and nutmeg. Stir in the egg until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Then sprinkle the crumble topping over the peaches. Pour the melted butter evenly over the topping.

    Bake the peach crumble for 35 to 40 minutes. Serve this dessert warm, with vanilla ice cream if desired.
