Quick and easy homemade breadsticks that are freezer friendly.
In a stand mixer add the warm water, yeast, brown sugar and salt. Let set until foamy (about 3-5 minutes).
Add the flour one cup at a time until the dough is smooth (adding more flour if needed). This dough is stickier than regular bread dough.
Knead the dough on low for about 5 minutes until it has pulled away from the sides of the mixer and the dough is elastic.
Add the dough to a greased bowl covered with plastic wrap (sprayed with non stick spray) or a lid and let rise until double in size (about 30 minutes).
On greased parchment paper on a large baking sheet press the dough flat into an even rectangle.
Cut into bread stick about 1 inch wide using a pizza cutter.
Bake for 15 - 20 minutes until the tops are lightly golden brown.
Remove from oven and brush with melted butter and sprinkle with garlic powder and shredded cheese (optional).
