Loaf Pan Cheesy Sausage Penne

30 min

Ingredients

  • 4 oz uncooked penne pasta (1 1/4 cups)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/4 cup Progresso™ Panko Italian style crispy bread crumbs
  • 1/4 lb bulk Italian pork sausage
  • 3/4 cup diced onions
  • 1 1/2 cups Muir Glen™ organic tomato basil pasta sauce (from 24.5-oz jar)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (6 oz)
  • Small fresh basil leaves, if desired

Directions

  1. 1

Heat oven to 350°F. Spray 8x4-inch loaf pan with cooking spray. Cook and drain pasta as directed on package, using minimum cook time.

  2. 2

Meanwhile, in 10-inch nonstick skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add bread crumbs; cook 2 to 4 minutes, stirring frequently, until toasted. Pour into small bowl. Wipe out skillet.

  3. 3

In same skillet over medium heat, add sausage and onions; cook 7 to 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until sausage is no longer pink. Drain, if necessary.

  4. 4

In large bowl, stir together sausage, sauce and 1 cup of the cheese. Add cooked pasta; toss gently. Spoon mixture into loaf pan. Top with remaining 1/2 cup cheese. Cover with foil.

  5. 5

Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until thoroughly heated and cheese is melted. Top with toasted bread crumbs and basil.
