Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (about 110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Directions

  1. 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the sugar, warm water, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes or until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

Gradually add in the flour and salt to the yeast mixture, stirring continuously to form a soft dough.

  3. 3

Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, or until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl, covering it with a damp cloth. Let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 to 1.5 hours or until it has doubled in size.

  5. 5

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  6. 6

Punch down the risen dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased 9x5 inch loaf pan.

  7. 7

Cover the loaf with a damp cloth and let it rise again for about 30 minutes.

  8. 8

Brush the top of the bread with melted butter.

  9. 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

  10. 10

Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Afterward, transfer the bread to a wire rack to cool completely.
