Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175°C), and grease a 9 by 13-inch baking dish.
Pour the chocolate cake mix and chocolate pudding mix into the prepared baking dish.
Drizzle the milk over the dry ingredients and use a spatula to mix everything together until properly combined.
Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the batter and dot small pieces of butter over the top.
Bake the chocolate dump cake in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let the cake cool for a few minutes. Slice and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a dollop of whipped cream, and a drizzle of hot fudge or caramel sauce. Enjoy!
