Ingredients

  • 2sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed overnight in the refrigerator
  • 3 tablespoonsdijon mustard, divided
  • 12slices thinly-sliced, good-quality deli ham (about 10 ounces)
  • 2 cupsfreshly grated gruyere, swiss, fontina, sharp cheddar, or similar melty cheese (about 5 ounces)
  • chopped fresh parsley, thyme, or chives (optional, for serving)

Directions

  1. 1

Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

  2. 2

Prepare the puff pastry: Lay the thawed puff pastry sheets flat on a clean surface. Brush each sheet with 1½ tablespoons of Dijon mustard.

  3. 3

Layer with ham and cheese: Place 6 slices of deli ham on each pastry sheet, covering the surface evenly. Sprinkle the freshly grated cheese over the ham.

  4. 4

Roll the pastry: Starting from one edge, carefully roll up each puff pastry sheet into a tight log or cylinder. Ensure the seam is sealed to prevent the pinwheels from unrolling.

  5. 5

Slice into pinwheels: Slice each rolled puff pastry into 1-inch wide pinwheels and arrange them on the prepared baking sheet.

  6. 6

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the puff pastry is golden brown and crispy. Keep an eye on them to prevent burning.

  7. 7

Garnish and serve: Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Garnish with chopped fresh herbs like parsley, thyme, or chives, if desired. Serve warm.
