Make a pickling spice from scratch with this recipe that uses an old-time combination of herbs and spices. Seal in a jar to keep fresh for up to a month.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoonswhole mustard seeds
  • 1 tablespoonwhole allspice berries
  • 2 teaspoonswhole coriander seeds
  • 1 teaspoonred pepper flakes, or more to taste
  • 1 teaspoonground ginger
  • 2bay leaves, crumbled
  • 2cinnamon sticks, broken in half
  • 6whole cloves

    Place mustard seeds, allspice berries, coriander seeds, and pepper flakes into a small glass jar with a tight-fitting lid.
