Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with this perfect fudgy chocolate cake with a special ingredient—Guinness!—and a dreamy cream cheese frosting.

Ingredients

  • Cooking spray
  • 3/4 c. unsweetened cocoa powder, plus more for pan
  • 2 (11-oz.) bottles Guinness stout
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 c. (400 g.) granulated sugar
  • 1 c. sour cream
  • 3/4 c. vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 c. (210 g.) all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda 
  • 1 tsp. kosher salt
  • 2 (8-oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
  • 2 c. (230 g.) confectioners' sugar
  • 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract

Directions

    Arrange a rack in center of oven; preheat to 350°. Grease a 9" springform pan with cooking spray. Dust with cocoa powder, tapping out excess.

    In a large bowl, using handheld mixer on medium-high speed, beat cream cheese until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Add confectioners’ sugar and vanilla and gently mix with a spatula until just incorporated. Using handheld mixer on medium-high speed, continue to beat until frosting is very light and fluffy.
