
Melt the butter in a heavy saucepan over medium heat. Add the garlic and onion and cook, stirring frequently, until soft. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well. Bring to a boil and let cook at a boil for 3-4 minutes, stirring constantly. Reduce the heat to low. Cover the pan and let cook for one hour, stirring frequently. Remove the bay leaves. Use immediately or store in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
