Buttery, crumbly streusel adds a lovely texture to desserts, and it’s so easy to whip up. Here’s how to make a general streusel topping recipe that can be used on pies, muffins, bars, coffee cakes and quick breads.

Ingredients

  • 1 cupsall-purpose flour
  • ½ cuppacked brown sugar
  • ¼ cupsugar
  • 1 teaspoonground cinnamon, optional
  • ¼ teaspoonsalt
  • ½ cupunsalted butter, melted

Directions

    In a small bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon if desired, and salt.

    Mix the streusel just until the butter is combined. The streusel should be nice and crumbly. Do not overmix.
