In a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy for about 5-7 minutes, depending on thickness. Aim for crisp bacon without burning.

When the bacon is nearly done, add diced yellow onion and cook until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes. Then add minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute. Remove from heat and set aside.
- 3
Place the canned or fresh green beans into the slow cooker.

Sprinkle garlic powder, onion powder, seasoned salt, black pepper, crushed red pepper flakes, and brown sugar evenly over the green beans.
- 5
Using a slotted spoon, transfer the cooked bacon, onion, and garlic from the skillet into the slow cooker with the green beans. Add about 1 tablespoon of bacon grease for flavor.
- 6
Pour chicken broth (1 cup for canned green beans or 2 cups for fresh) into the slow cooker and stir gently to combine everything.
- 7
Top the green beans with slices of butter evenly distributed.
- 8
Cover with the lid and cook on low for 5 to 6 hours. Stir once or twice during cooking if possible to help distribute flavors.
- 9
Once cooked, serve the green beans warm and enjoy as a flavorful side dish.

This dish pairs delightfully with southern fried pork chops and mashed potatoes for a classic meal.
