Jam Filled Bow Tie Cookies

These are flaky buttery pastry cookies with jam in the middle made to look like bows for the holiday season.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz cream cheese

    at room temperature

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter

    at room temperature, 1 stick

  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon coarse salt
  • 1 large egg

    beatenGarnish with powdered sugarFilling  Suggestions, for the egg wash to seal edges

  • jam fillings such as cherry

    blueberry, pineapple, apricot, orange marmalade peach, blackberry, red raspberry, fig

  • mixed fillings with walnuts

    cinnamon, brown sugar, dates or raisins

  • ground pistachios

    egg white with a little almond paste mixed in

  • maraschino red and green cherries chopped
  • Nutella
  • coconut and chopped chocolate or mini chocolate chips
  • peanut butter

Directions

    Mix all ingredients together to make the soft dough in a heavy mixer.

    This is easier to handle if you refrigerate it for 20 minutes.

    Flour a cutting board., roll the dough out.

    Cut with a fluted edged pastry cutter or use a  circle cookie cutter.

    Fill with a little bit of the jam.

    Brush edges with egg wash.

    Fold circle toward the center and pinch to form bows in the middle.

    Bake at 400 hot preheated oven until set.

    Around 10 to 15 minutes until slightly golden brown.

    Cool completely on wax paper or parchment paper.

    Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
