Ingredients
- 1 tbspolive oil
- 1 lbkielbasa sausage
- ½ conion
- 2 clovegarlic
- 1 tspItalian seasoning
- 2 creduced-sodium chicken broth
- 1 canItalian tomatoes
- ½ cmilk
- 8 ozuncooked penne or similar pasta
- ½ tspground black pepper
- 2 cCheddar-Jack cheese
Directions
- 1
Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil to a large skillet over medium heat to prepare for cooking the sausage and vegetables.
- 2
Add the sliced kielbasa sausage and diced onion to the skillet. Cook for 4 minutes, stirring regularly, until the sausage is lightly browned and the onion is softened.
- 3
Stir in the minced garlic and Italian seasoning. Cook for 30 seconds while continuously stirring to release the flavors without burning the garlic.
- 4
Pour in the reduced-sodium chicken broth, diced Italian tomatoes (with their juices), milk, and add the uncooked penne pasta. Season with ½ teaspoon ground black pepper.
- 5
Increase the heat to bring the mixture to a rolling boil, ensuring the pasta starts cooking.
- 6
Reduce heat to medium-low, cover the skillet, and cook for 15 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking, and cook until the pasta is al dente and has absorbed most of the liquid.
- 7
Take the skillet off the heat and stir in the shredded Cheddar-Jack cheese until it melts and creates a creamy sauce.
- 8
Taste and season with additional salt and pepper if needed, then serve the cheesy kielbasa pasta hot.
