About this Recipe
Ree Drummond's Classic Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
There's nothing quite like a warm, chewy Oatmeal Raisin Cookie to bring back childhood memories, and Ree Drummond's recipe delivers that nostalgic comfort food perfectly. These cookies are a beloved American dessert, packed with hearty old-fashioned oats, rich brown sugar, a hint of cinnamon, and plenty of plump, juicy raisins. They truly taste like Grandma's secret recipe, making them an ideal treat for any occasion, from an Autumn afternoon snack to a festive Winter food gift.
What makes these cookies stand out is the perfect balance of flavors and textures. The combination of both brown and granulated sugars gives them that coveted chewy center, while the vanilla bean paste (or extract) deepens the overall flavor profile. They're substantial enough to be a satisfying snack and sweet enough to be a delightful dessert, appealing to children and adults alike.
Tips for Perfect Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
To ensure your cookies are just as irresistible as Ree's, keep these tips in mind:
- Room Temperature Butter: Make sure your salted butter is truly at room temperature. This helps create a light and fluffy base when creamed with the sugars.
- Don't Overmix: Once you add the flour and oats, mix just until combined. Overmixing can lead to tough cookies.
- Plump Raisins: For extra juicy raisins, you can soak them in warm water or a little rum for 10-15 minutes, then drain well before adding to the dough.
These oatmeal raisin cookies are incredibly versatile. They're fantastic on their own, wonderful with a glass of milk, or a lovely addition to a potluck or bake sale. Make a batch to share, or simply enjoy them yourself!
