Ingredients

  • 1 12-count package Hawaiian rolls
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 small white onion

    diced

  • 2 cloves garlic

    minced

  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • salt and pepper
    to taste
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds

Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat oven to 350F.

  2. 2

Without separating the rolls, cut the entire loaf horizontally and place the bottoms in a 9x13-inch pan. Sprinkle with half of the cheese. Set aside.

  3. 3

To make the sloppy joe meat, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Cook ground beef and diced onion until the beef is cooked through and the onion has softened. Drain off excess fat. Add garlic and cook until fragrant, just 30 seconds.

  4. 4

While the beef is cooking, stir together ketchup, brown sugar, worcestershire sauce, chili powder, and salt and pepper.

  5. 5

Once the fat has been drained from the meat, lower the heat and add ketchup mixture and water. Let cook until thickened and sloppy joe consistency, 4 - 5 minutes.

  6. 6

Spoon the meat mixture over the bottom halves of the rolls. Sprinkle with the remaining cheese.

  7. 7

To make the glaze, melt butter completely. Stir in brown sugar, worcestershire sauce, dijon mustard, and sesame seeds. Pour over the sliders, making sure each sliders gets coated.

  8. 8

Bake, uncovered, for 18 - 22 minutes or until the sliders are golden brown.

For a spicier kick, you could add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sloppy joe mix along with the chili powder. To boost the savory depth, a dash of smoked paprika would be a welcome addition. You could also experiment with different cheeses, like provolone or Monterey Jack, for a slightly different melt and flavor profile that suits your preference.

These delightful sliders are ideal for game day parties, casual get-togethers, or simply a fun family dinner. Serve them hot, straight from the oven, for maximum enjoyment, perhaps alongside a crisp green salad or some classic potato chips for a complete meal.
