About this Recipe

Craving a hearty, satisfying breakfast that comes together with minimal fuss? This Instant Pot Breakfast Strata is your answer, offering comforting flavors perfect for any meal, whether it's the morning or evening. It's a delightful way to enjoy a substantial, savory dish without spending hours in the kitchen.

The beauty of using your Instant Pot for this strata lies in its hands-off cooking and perfectly even results. It transforms simple ingredients like bread, sausage, and eggs into a deeply flavorful, custardy dish without the need for constant oven monitoring. The pressure cooker ensures every bite is moist and infused with all the savory goodness, making breakfast or "brinner" effortless.

What you'll experience is a truly robust and comforting dish. You'll bite into tender cubes of bread, softened but not mushy, generously studded with savory ground sausage, sweet diced onion, and crisp green bell pepper. All of this is bound together by a rich, custardy egg and milk mixture, seasoned with ground mustard, salt, and pepper, and topped with a generous layer of melted cheese. It's a surprisingly simple dish to make that feels incredibly indulgent, offering a balance of textures and savory notes that will satisfy everyone at the table.

This strata is incredibly versatile for customization. Easily swap the ground sausage for a vegetarian crumbled plant-based alternative or even diced ham to suit different preferences. Feel free to use your favorite shredded cheese, from a sharp cheddar for extra tang to a milder Monterey Jack for creamy meltiness, tailoring the flavor profile to your liking. If green bell pepper isn't your favorite, consider red or yellow for a sweeter note.

Perfect for a lazy weekend brunch, a holiday breakfast gathering, or even a simple weeknight 'brinner,' this strata pairs wonderfully with a fresh fruit salad or a side of crispy bacon to complete the meal.
