About this Recipe

Craving that legendary 1905 Salad from the Columbia Restaurant, the one that's become a viral sensation? Now you can bring that iconic taste right into your kitchen with this incredibly easy recipe, ready for prep in just 15 minutes.

What sets this recipe apart is its vibrant, zesty garlic salad dressing. It's a harmonious blend of freshly minced garlic, tangy white wine vinegar, bright lemon juice, and a subtle hint of Worcestershire sauce, all emulsified with extra virgin olive oil. This distinctive dressing perfectly complements the sweet ham, creamy Swiss cheese, and crisp iceberg lettuce, creating a flavor profile that's both refreshing and deeply satisfying.

Prepare for a symphony of textures and bold flavors with every forkful. You'll encounter the satisfying crunch of crisp iceberg lettuce, the juicy sweetness of ripe tomato, and the savory richness of julienned ham and creamy Swiss cheese. The chopped green olives add a wonderful briny counterpoint, while a generous dusting of Pecorino Romano or Parmesan brings an aged, umami depth. Despite its sophisticated taste, this salad is surprisingly simple to assemble, delivering a restaurant-quality experience without the fuss.

While the original is a classic, you can easily customize this salad to your liking. Swap the sweet ham for sliced salami or even grilled chicken for a different protein. If Swiss cheese isn't your preference, thinly sliced provolone or even a sharper cheddar could work. For a vegetarian twist, simply omit the ham and add more olives, sun-dried tomatoes, or marinated artichoke hearts. Don't have Pecorino Romano? Grated Parmesan is a perfect substitute, as noted in the ingredients.

This 1905 Salad is perfect as a light, yet satisfying lunch, a vibrant starter for any meal, or a refreshing side dish to complement heartier entrees. Serve it immediately after assembly to enjoy the freshest flavors and crispest greens.
