About this Recipe
Craving a classic salad that feels both nostalgic and utterly delicious? This Columbia 1905 Salad brings together crisp textures and savory flavors in a way that feels both gourmet and incredibly satisfying. It’s a perfect dish for when you want something fresh, hearty, and full of character without spending hours in the kitchen.
This recipe shines because of its expertly balanced vinaigrette and the harmonious blend of ingredients. The dressing, bright with extra virgin olive oil, white wine vinegar, minced garlic, dried oregano, lemon juice, and gluten-free Worcestershire sauce, perfectly coats every leaf and morsel. The combination of savory ham, sharp Swiss cheese, and briny pimento-stuffed olives creates a flavor profile that is both complex and comforting, ensuring every bite is a delightful experience.
What you can expect is a vibrant, crunchy salad featuring crisp iceberg lettuce, tender strips of baked ham, and creamy Swiss cheese. The pimento-stuffed green olives provide a tangy, briny counterpoint, while the fresh tomato adds a burst of sweetness. Grated Parmesan cheese ties it all together with an extra layer of savory depth. It's a salad that eats like a meal, robust enough to satisfy your hunger, yet refreshing enough to brighten your plate.
Customization & Variations
This versatile salad welcomes your personal touch. For a different protein, you could easily swap the baked ham for strips of grilled chicken or even chickpeas for a vegetarian twist. Instead of Swiss cheese, provolone or a mild cheddar would work beautifully. If pimento-stuffed green olives aren't your preference, try Kalamata olives for a bolder flavor, or simply omit them and add some capers for a briny pop.
Serve this Columbia 1905 Salad as a satisfying lunch or a delightful dinner. It also makes an excellent side dish for a casual gathering or a more formal meal, complementing grilled proteins or a hearty soup beautifully.
