10 servings
Made with nutty browned butter, rich brown sugar, sweet butterscotch and white chocolate chips, these blondies are a decadent dessert.

Ingredients

  • unsalted butter
    ¾ c.
  • nonstick cooking spray
  • all-purpose flour
    2 c.
  • firmly packed light brown sugar
    2 c.
  • baking powder
    1 tsp.
  • salt
    1 tsp.
  • eggs

    lightly beaten

    3 large
  • vanilla extract
    1 tbsp.
  • chopped pecans

    divided

    1 c.
  • butterscotch or white chocolate chips

    divided

    1 ½ c.

Directions

  1. 1

Melt the butter over medium heat in a medium stainless steel or light-colored skillet. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the butter smells nutty and small light-brown flecks have settled to the bottom of the pan, 6 to 8 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat, and pour the butter into a small bowl. Let cool 10 minutes.

  2. 2

Preheat the oven to 350°. Spray a 9-by-13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.

  3. 3

Stir together the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl with a fork until combined. Add the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla; stir together until batter just comes together and there are no dry pockets of flour remaining. Fold in 1/2 cup of the pecans and 1 cup of the butterscotch or white chocolate chips.

  4. 4

Pour the batter into the prepared pan; spread into an even layer. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup pecans and 1/2 cup chips evenly over the top of the batter. Bake until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 30 minutes.

  5. 5

Let blondies cool at least 30 minutes before slicing.

About this Recipe

Craving a deeply satisfying, chewy dessert that’s rich with flavor? These delightful blondies are the answer, perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth any time of year, especially for special occasions like Easter, Father's Day, or Mother's Day.

What makes these blondies truly exceptional is the thoughtful combination of nutty browned butter with the caramel notes of brown sugar. This foundation creates a depth of flavor that's hard to beat, setting them apart from simpler bar cookies. The addition of both butterscotch and white chocolate chips ensures every bite is packed with sweet, melty goodness.

When you bite into these blondies, expect a wonderfully rich and chewy texture, dense but not heavy, with a slightly crisp edge. The distinct flavor of browned butter shines through, complemented by the warmth of vanilla and the satisfying crunch of pecans. Each serving offers a decadent experience, making them a comforting and indulgent treat. They're straightforward to prepare, culminating in a total time of just 50 minutes, making them an achievable baking project for home cooks.

Customizing these blondies is wonderfully simple. If you're out of pecans, feel free to substitute with walnuts or skip them entirely for a nut-free version. You can also play with the mix-ins; while butterscotch and white chocolate chips are specified, milk chocolate chips or dark chocolate chunks would be equally delicious. For a touch of citrus brightness, a teaspoon of orange zest can be added with the vanilla.

These rich blondies are ideal for sharing at family gatherings, holiday celebrations, or simply as a comforting dessert after a long week. Serve them slightly warm for an extra gooey experience, perhaps with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream to balance the sweetness.
