In a quart-sized lidded glass container, add the honey, vinegar, ginger and water. Shake to combine.
- 4
Refrigerate: Cover the jar and transfer to the fridge. Drink once cold or let the ginger infuse for up to 4 days (until it tastes good to you), at which point you can strain out the ginger. The longer the ginger infuses, the stronger the flavor will become. The switchel is best stored in the fridge and enjoyed within 7 days (including infusing days), though it is often good for longer.
- 5
Serve: Pour the switchel into a glass filled with ice. Drink it straight, which will be spicier, or top with still or sparkling water to soften the flavor.

About this Recipe
Looking for the ultimate refreshing summer drink that truly quenches your thirst? Switchel, often called 'haymaker's punch,' is a centuries-old secret to natural hydration, and this simple ginger version is exactly what you need. Farmers historically relied on this invigorating beverage after long hours in the fields, and for good reason.
This Ginger Switchel recipe shines through its simple, yet potent combination of fresh ginger, tangy apple cider vinegar, and the natural sweetness of honey. It’s a naturally balanced drink designed to invigorate, not overwhelm, making it the perfect choice for warm days or anytime you need a revitalizing boost. The blend of these core ingredients creates a uniquely satisfying taste that is both zesty and soothing.
Prepare for a wonderfully zesty and tangy sip, brightened by the warm, aromatic kick of fresh ginger. The honey provides a mellow sweetness that perfectly complements the apple cider vinegar's tartness, resulting in a drink that feels both nourishing and incredibly revitalizing. With just water, vinegar, honey, and ginger, you'll experience a clean, vibrant flavor that is far more satisfying than sugary sodas. It’s a delightful experience that truly stands apart, providing genuine refreshment.
You can easily tailor your Switchel experience to your preference. While the base is made with water, you can finish your drink with either sparkling water for a fizzy, effervescent treat or still water for a smoother, more traditional gulp. You can also adjust the amount of honey to achieve your desired level of sweetness.
This Ginger Switchel is ideal for any warm-weather occasion, whether you’re unwinding after a long day, hosting a backyard gathering, or simply need a revitalizing pick-me-up. Serve it chilled over ice for the best experience, perhaps garnished with a thin slice of lemon or a sprig of mint for an extra touch of freshness.
