About this Recipe

Craving that irresistible sweet and savory orange chicken but want to skip the takeout line? This Slow Cooker Orange Chicken recipe brings restaurant-quality flavors right to your kitchen with minimal fuss, making it the perfect stress-free weeknight meal.

The magic of this recipe lies in its simplicity: a quick sear on the chicken, then your slow cooker transforms it into tender bites enveloped in a rich, flavorful glaze. It’s the ultimate dump-and-go meal after a few minutes of initial prep, delivering authentic taste without the complicated steps.

Prepare for tender, juicy chicken pieces, each coated in a beautifully balanced sweet and savory orange glaze that perfectly mimics your favorite Asian takeout. The sweet notes from the orange marmalade are expertly balanced by the savory soy sauce, tangy white vinegar, and aromatic sesame oil. Hints of ground ginger, minced garlic, and a touch of red pepper flakes create a complex flavor profile that's both comforting and exciting. While the slow cooker does most of the work, that initial browning step ensures a depth of flavor that elevates the dish, leaving you with a wonderfully saucy and satisfying main course.

Want to adjust the spice? Feel free to increase or decrease the red pepper flakes to your liking. While the recipe calls for boneless skinless chicken breasts or tenders, you can certainly use boneless skinless chicken thighs for a slightly richer flavor and even more tender results. For other textural contrasts, consider a sprinkle of toasted cashews or fresh cilantro alongside the scallions and sesame seeds for garnish.

This flavorful orange chicken is perfect for a cozy weeknight dinner or feeding a crowd without stress. Serve it over fluffy white rice with a side of steamed broccoli to complete your homemade takeout feast, just like your favorite restaurant meal.
