Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken wings
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp white pepper
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tbsp neutral oil

    I used avocado oil

  • 1/3 cup light soy sauce

    low sodium

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 4 cloves garlic

    minced

  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  • 8 dried red chilis
  • 2 tbsp neutral oil
  • 1/2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 3 tbsp water

Directions

  1. 1

Pat the chicken wings dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.

  2. 2

In a bowl, season the chicken wings with salt and white pepper along with baking powder and neutral oil. Mix until the wings are evenly coated.

  3. 3

In a single layer, place the chicken wings in the air fryer and air fry for 10 minutes at 400F.

  4. 4

Flip the chicken wings and air fry again for 8-12 minutes at 400F (depending on the size of the wings) or until the skin is golden brown and crispy.

  5. 5

In a large wide pan, heat 2 tbsp of neutral oil over medium heat. Add your garlic and chili and fry 30-45 seconds until fragrant, then add soy sauce, sugar, brown sugar, garlic and vinegar. Stir until the sauce bubbles and the sugar is dissolved, about 2-3 minutes. Then add the cornstarch slurry (water mixed with cornstarch) and mix until thickened.

About this Recipe

Craving wings that are both incredibly crispy and packed with flavor, all without deep-frying? These Air Fryer Soy Garlic Wings are your answer for a quick, delicious meal or snack that delivers on taste and texture.

The magic behind this recipe lies in the air fryer, which effortlessly delivers an irresistible crunch while keeping the chicken perfectly juicy inside. A judicious amount of baking powder is the secret ingredient that helps achieve that coveted, golden-brown crispy skin, setting these wings apart from soggy takeout versions.

Prepare for a delightful symphony of flavors: a perfect balance of sweet, savory, and a hint of tang from the vinegar, all coated in a rich, garlicky glaze. Each bite offers a satisfying contrast—tender, succulent chicken wrapped in a beautifully rendered, crispy skin, drenched in that irresistible soy garlic sauce. Despite their gourmet taste, these wings come together quickly, making them perfect for busy weeknights or impromptu gatherings with friends and family.

Customization & Variations

Feel free to adjust the spice level to your liking by adding more or fewer dried red chilis to the sauce. If you prefer a milder flavor, you can certainly omit them entirely. While the recipe calls for light soy sauce, you can experiment with regular soy sauce if that's what you have on hand, though you might want to consider the overall saltiness. Any neutral oil, such as avocado or canola oil, will work well for preparing the wings and sauce.

These wings are fantastic as an appetizer for game day, a flavorful side dish, or even a satisfying main course for a casual dinner. Serve them hot and be ready for every finger-licking bite.
