Bang Bang Salmon

Bang Bang Salmon

Bang Bang Salmon is seasoned salmon filets brushed with bang bang sauce, baked in the oven, and topped with even more of the sweet and spicy sauce.

Ingredients

  • 4 salmon filets

    about 1½ pounds, skins on

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup mayonnaise

    116 g

  • ¼ cup Thai sweet chili sauce

    66 g

  • 1 teaspoon Sriracha
    or more to taste
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • chives

    chopped for garnish

Directions

  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. 2

Drizzle the olive oil over salmon on all sides and gently rub it in. In a small bowl, combine paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

  3. 3

Sprinkle seasoning mixture over the salmon filets.

  4. 4

In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, Thai sweet chili sauce, Sriracha, and honey. Mix well and divide the sauce in half. (It makes one cup of sauce, so use ½ cup for brushing it on the salmon before baking, reserving the other ½ cup for drizzling after baking.)

  5. 5

Using ½ cup of sauce, evenly brush it over the salmon filets.

  6. 6

Place the salmon onto the lined baking sheet, skin-side down, leaving space between each filet.

  7. 7

Bake the salmon for 8-10 minutes, or until cooked through. (Start checking the salmon after 6 minutes.) The internal temperature of fully cooked salmon is 145°F. For a crispier filet, broil for 1-2 minutes.

  8. 8

Transfer the salmon to a plate and drizzle with the remaining sauce. Garnish with chives.

  9. 9

    Serve warm with rice.

About this Recipe

Craving a vibrant, flavorful salmon dish that’s easy enough for a weeknight but impressive enough for guests? Our Bang Bang Salmon delivers a perfect balance of sweet, spicy, and savory, transforming simple salmon fillets into something truly special and incredibly satisfying.

This recipe shines by skillfully combining succulent baked salmon with a creamy, dynamic bang bang sauce. The salmon fillets are first seasoned with paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper, creating a delicious foundation of flavor before baking. This seasoned salmon is then generously brushed with the iconic sweet and spicy sauce, ensuring every bite is infused with that irresistible sweet heat. This thoughtful layering of flavors and the straightforward baking method make it far more exciting and flavorful than plain baked fish.

Prepare for a truly delightful culinary experience where perfectly tender, flaky salmon meets a sauce that’s both indulgent and exciting. You’ll discover the rich, savory notes of the baked salmon beautifully complemented by the creamy texture of the mayonnaise-based sauce. This signature sauce is brightened by the distinct sweetness of honey and Thai sweet chili sauce, and finished with a pleasant, customizable kick from Sriracha. The final touch of fresh chopped chives adds a delicate oniony freshness, cutting through the richness and creating a wonderfully balanced dish that feels both comforting and adventurous.

While salmon is undoubtedly the star, the versatile bang bang sauce can be wonderfully adapted to other proteins like chicken breasts or shrimp if you're looking for an alternative. For the sauce itself, don't hesitate to adjust the Sriracha level to match your personal spice preference—add more for an intense fiery kick or less for a milder, more approachable flavor. If you don't have honey on hand, a small amount of maple syrup could offer a similar sweetness profile, though it might subtly shift the overall flavor of the sauce.

This Bang Bang Salmon is a fantastic choice for a quick and flavorful family dinner, or an elegant yet simple meal when entertaining. It pairs beautifully with complementary sides like fluffy steamed rice, perfectly roasted asparagus, or a crisp, refreshing green salad, allowing the bold and captivating flavors of the salmon to truly shine.
