About this Recipe
Craving a delicious, restaurant-quality fish dish that's surprisingly fast and easy to make at home? This Parmesan Baked Cod recipe delivers on all fronts, bringing salty, creamy, herby, and cheesy flavors straight to your dinner table with minimal effort.
This recipe works by harnessing the power of a simple yet incredibly flavorful topping. The combination of creamy mayonnaise, sharp Parmigiano Reggiano, and vibrant fresh herbs creates a rich, savory crust that locks in moisture, ensuring your cod fillets remain tender and flaky. It’s a foolproof method that delivers complex flavors without any complicated techniques.
What you can expect is a truly satisfying meal. The cod emerges from the oven perfectly cooked, with a delicate, moist interior that contrasts beautifully with the golden-brown, savory Parmesan crust. Each bite offers a delightful blend of textures and an explosion of flavor—the salty notes of the cheese, the fresh brightness of parsley and basil, and the subtle warmth of grated garlic all coming together to elevate the mild fish. It’s a dish that feels elegant but is remarkably approachable, making it perfect for a busy weeknight or an effortless dinner party.
- Herb Swaps: If fresh basil isn't available, you can increase the parsley or add other tender herbs like chives or dill for a different flavor profile. A pinch of dried herbs can work in a pinch, but fresh is always best here.
- Cheese Alternatives: While Parmigiano Reggiano offers the best flavor, you can use another hard, salty cheese like Pecorino Romano for a sharper taste.
- Protein Variations: This creamy Parmesan topping is versatile; try it with other firm white fish like haddock or tilapia, adjusting cooking time as needed for thickness.
Serve this Parmesan Baked Cod as a main course for a quick and impressive dinner. It pairs wonderfully with simple steamed vegetables, a light green salad, or a side of roasted potatoes.
