Quick & Easy Panko Shrimp
Ingredients
- 1/2 lb shrimps
jumbo size
- 1 1/4 cup Panko
or as needed
- 2 cups Vegetable oil
or any neutral oil
- 1 large egg
beaten
- Lemon wedges
optional for serving
- 2 tbsp Potato starch
or cornstarch
- 2 tbsp all purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 cup Japanese mayonnaise
or regular mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp sriracha sauce
Directions
- 1
Peel deveined shrimp and pat dry with paper towels.
- 2
In a small bowl, crack and beat the egg.
- 3
In a medium bowl, mix Flour mixture ingredients as listed above.
- 4
In a baking sheet or shallow dish, spread panko breadcrumbs in a single layer.
- 5
Place shrimp into flour mixture first and coat well. Shake off any excess flour. Then coat shrimp with beaten egg, and lastly with panko breadcrumbs. Make sure there are no bald spots for best results.
- 6
In a large frying pan or deep fryer, heat enough oil over medium-high heat or 350 degrees F. (To air fry, see below Notes for instructions)
- 7
Once oil is hot, in small batches (4-6 pieces) deep fry shrimp for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown, flipping over halfway. Do not overcrowd the pan. Note: To tell when shrimp is cooked is when they're curled. The internal temperature of cooked shrimp is 145 degrees F with a digital instant read cooking thermometer.
- 8
Transfer the first batch of fried shrimp to a wire rack for excess oil to drip off. Repeat for the remaining shrimp.
- 9
In a bowl, combine Japanese mayo and sriracha sauce. Enjoy with shrimp and fresh lemon juice (optional).

About this Recipe
Craving that perfectly crispy, golden shrimp you usually only get at a restaurant? This Quick & Easy Panko Shrimp recipe brings authentic crunch and flavor right to your kitchen, ready in under 30 minutes for a satisfying meal or appetizer. It's truly a dish that tastes gourmet but comes together with impressive ease.
What sets this recipe apart is the irresistible texture contrast: succulent, jumbo shrimp encased in an exceptionally crisp panko crust, complemented by a creamy, spicy sriracha mayo. This combination delivers a dish that feels special yet is incredibly simple to prepare, making it a go-to for busy weeknights or entertaining a crowd.
Prepare for a delightful sensory experience. You'll bite through a remarkably crunchy exterior, revealing tender, juicy shrimp within. Each piece is seasoned perfectly with a blend of salt, garlic powder, and black pepper, ready to be dipped into the vibrant, zesty sriracha mayo, which offers a creamy coolness with a pleasant kick. This dish is designed to be straightforward for any home cook, yielding impressive results without any fuss.
While the classic combination is hard to beat, you have a couple of easy options for customization. For the frying, any neutral oil like vegetable oil works beautifully, but feel free to use your preferred oil with a high smoke point. If Japanese mayonnaise isn't readily available, regular mayonnaise makes a perfectly good substitute for the sriracha mayo, slightly altering the richness but maintaining the creamy texture. And for a touch of brightness, don't forget those optional lemon wedges—a simple squeeze makes a world of difference.
Quick & Easy Panko Shrimp makes a fantastic appetizer to kick off any meal, a satisfying side dish, or even a light main course. Serve it hot with extra sriracha mayo on the side, perhaps alongside a fresh green salad or some steamed rice for balance.
