Where Recipe Keeper is the better choice
- You want a meal planner: Recipe Keeper has weekly and monthly calendars, adds a whole plan to the shopping list in one step, and can build a random meal plan from your hints.
- You are digitizing a pile of cookbooks, magazine clippings and handwritten family cards: it scans photos and PDF files with OCR.
- You want to print a cookbook: it builds a PDF cookbook with a cover page, table of contents and custom layouts.
- You want desktop apps on Mac and Windows.
- You cook hands-free with Amazon Alexa: the Recipe Keeper skill searches recipes, reads steps and adds to the shopping list (English only).
- You are moving from another app: its listing names transfers from Paprika, MasterCook, BigOven, Cook'n, Pepperplate, OrganizEat, Recipe Box and more.
- You want nutrition information and search by nutritional amounts, plus 15 interface languages.
- Each platform beyond the first is a separate purchase, per its App Store listing.
- Its listing describes importing from recipe websites; it does not list importing recipes from TikTok, Instagram or YouTube videos.
- We found no web app in its listing, and could not confirm an Android app from the App Store listing.
Who is Recipe Keeper best for?
Cooks with a large existing collection (cookbooks, clippings, family cards) who also plan meals and want desktop apps.
Recipe Keeper is the stronger pick for meal planning, scanning a big paper collection, printing cookbooks and desktop use. Only Recipes is the better Recipe Keeper alternative if you save recipes from social video, want a web app, or want one account that covers every device instead of a purchase per platform.
