What Only Recipes Does with Your TikTok Link

1

Fetch the post

Only Recipes asks Supadata, a video data service, for the video's caption, title, creator and thumbnail.

2

Get a transcript

It also asks for an English transcript of what is said in the video. Supadata uses the video's own captions when it has them and generates a transcript from the audio when it does not.

3

Write out the recipe

An AI model reads the transcript and the caption together and writes out the recipe name, ingredients, steps, times and servings it finds there.

4

Credit the creator

The saved recipe keeps the creator's name and handle, uses the video thumbnail as its photo, and links back to the original TikTok.

Good to Know

  • Importing from TikTok needs Only Recipes Premium. Without it, the importer shows an upgrade prompt instead of a recipe.
  • The importer can only read videos that are publicly viewable. Private, friends-only and deleted videos cannot be imported.
  • Links in a TikTok caption are not followed. The importer works from the video's caption and transcript only.
  • If neither the narration nor the caption describes the recipe, for example a video set to music with a short caption, there is nothing to read and the import fails.
  • When a video lists ingredients but never says the steps, the AI is told to write reasonable steps from the ingredients. Check those steps before you cook.

TikTok Import Questions

Does Only Recipes watch the TikTok video?

It reads what the video says rather than what it shows. Only Recipes gets the caption and an English transcript of the audio from Supadata, and an AI model writes the recipe from that text. Ingredients that only appear on screen and are never said or written in the caption may be missed.

Is importing from TikTok free?

No. TikTok is one of the video platforms that need Only Recipes Premium, along with Instagram, YouTube and Facebook. Premium includes 10 minutes of video imports per month. Recipe websites and Pinterest pins import for free.

Why did my TikTok import fail?

The usual reasons are that the video is private or deleted, or that neither the narration nor the caption contains a recipe. If an import fails, the importer offers to keep trying and to email you, or send a push notification, if it manages to save the recipe later.

The creator put the recipe link in their caption. Does the importer use it?

Not for TikTok. The TikTok importer reads the caption text and the transcript, and does not open links in the caption. If you have the creator's recipe page, paste that link instead and it will be imported like any recipe website.

Does the saved recipe credit the creator?

Yes. The recipe keeps the creator's display name and TikTok handle, and links back to the video you imported it from.
