Print with the button or your browser's own print (Cmd+P on Mac, Ctrl+P on Windows). For 4x6 cards, choose your printer's 4x6 or index card paper size in the print dialog, and set scale to 100%.

How to make a recipe card

  1. Fill in the title, servings and times. Leave anything you do not need blank and it is left off the card.
  2. Put one ingredient per line, and one step per line. Numbers and bullets you paste in are cleaned up; the card numbers the steps for you.
  3. Choose 4x6 card or Letter page, check the preview, then print with the Print button or Cmd+P / Ctrl+P.

Tips for a card you will actually use

A 4x6 card holds a short recipe comfortably: roughly ten ingredients and five or six brief steps. Write steps as actions ("Simmer 15 minutes") rather than paragraphs, and keep stories and substitutions for the notes line. If a recipe runs long, a letter page lays out the same two columns with larger text.

Heavier card stock holds up better in the kitchen. Check what weight your printer accepts before loading it, and print a test on plain paper first to confirm the orientation.
