How to Save a Recipe from Pinterest

  1. 1

    Open the pin

Open the recipe pin in the Pinterest app or on pinterest.com. Use a single pin, not a board.

  2. 2

    Copy the link

Tap Share on the pin, then Copy link. On a computer you can copy the address from the browser instead.

  3. 3

    Paste it above

Paste the link into the box at the top of this page and press Import.

  4. 4

    Check it and save

Look over the ingredients and steps, then save the recipe to your collection.

On iPhone, the Only Recipes app adds itself to the share sheet, so you can send a link to it without copying and pasting. Get the app

What Only Recipes Does with Your Pinterest Link

1

Open the pin

Only Recipes loads the pin page for pinterest.com and pin.it links.

2

Find where it came from

It reads the link Pinterest publishes for the pin's original website.

3

Import from the source

It then imports the recipe from that website exactly as it would if you had pasted the site's link yourself, starting with the recipe data the site publishes for search engines.

Good to Know

  • The pin has to link to a website. Pins that are only an uploaded picture, with no source link, cannot be imported.
  • Paste a single pin. A board or a search results page has no single source to follow.
  • The result depends on the website the pin points to. If that page has no recipe on it, or is offline, the import fails.

Pinterest Import Questions

Is importing from Pinterest free?

Yes. Pinterest is not one of the platforms that need Premium, because the importer follows the pin to the original website and imports the recipe from there.

Why does Only Recipes leave Pinterest?

A pin is usually a picture that links to a recipe somewhere else. The full ingredients and steps live on that website, so the importer follows the pin's source link and reads the recipe from the page it points to.

Can I import a whole Pinterest board?

No. The importer works one pin at a time. Open each recipe pin and paste its link.

Why did my Pinterest import fail?

Usually the pin has no source link (it was uploaded as an image), or the website it points to has no recipe on the page or is offline. If an import fails, the importer offers to keep trying and to email you, or send a push notification, if it manages to save the recipe later.

Do short pin.it links work?

Yes. Links that start with pin.it, which the Pinterest app often copies, are handled the same way as pinterest.com pin links.
