What Only Recipes Does with Your Instagram Link
Read the caption
Only Recipes first fetches the post's caption and creator details through Supadata, a video data service.
Follow a recipe link
If the caption links to a recipe site Only Recipes already recognizes, it imports the recipe from that page, which usually has the creator's full written recipe.
Handle "comment for the recipe" posts
When a caption asks you to comment a word to get the recipe, Only Recipes can comment that word from its own Instagram business account, never yours, and wait about 20 seconds for a reply with a link. If a link arrives, it imports that page.
Read the video
Otherwise it gets an English transcript of the video and has an AI model write the recipe from the transcript and the caption together.
Good to Know
- Importing from Instagram needs Only Recipes Premium. Without it, the importer shows an upgrade prompt instead of a recipe.
- The importer can only read public posts. Posts from private accounts cannot be imported.
- Only links in the caption are checked. A link in the creator's bio is not followed.
- The "comment for the recipe" step only works when the creator's account replies by direct message within about 20 seconds. When it does not, the importer falls back to reading the video.
- Recipes that only appear as text inside photos or on screen, and not in the caption or the narration, may not come through.
- When a post lists ingredients but never says the steps, the AI is told to write reasonable steps from the ingredients. Check those steps before you cook.
Instagram Import Questions
Can I import an Instagram Reel?
Yes. Copy the Reel's link with Share, then Copy link, and paste it into the importer. Reels and regular posts go through the same steps: caption link first, then the comment keyword step, then the video transcript.
The caption says "comment RECIPE and I'll send it to you". What happens?
Only Recipes recognizes that kind of caption. It can comment the keyword from its own Instagram business account, not yours, and waits about 20 seconds for the creator's account to reply with a link. If a link comes back, the recipe is imported from that page. If not, the importer reads the video instead.
Is importing from Instagram free?
No. Instagram is one of the video platforms that need Only Recipes Premium, along with TikTok, YouTube and Facebook. Premium includes 10 minutes of video imports per month. Recipe websites and Pinterest pins import for free.
Can I import from a private Instagram account?
No. The importer can only read posts that are publicly viewable, so posts from private accounts cannot be imported.
Why did my Instagram import fail?
The usual reasons are that the account is private, the post was deleted, or the recipe is only shown in images or on screen and never written in the caption or said in the video. If an import fails, the importer offers to keep trying and to email you, or send a push notification, if it manages to save the recipe later.
