  5. 5

    2. Place each rack of ribs on a large piece of heavy-duty aluminum foil. Season each side generously with the spice mixture. Wrap the ribs tightly in foil and place on a baking sheet.

  6. 6

    3. Bake at 500 F for 20 minutes, then reduce heat to 250 F. Bake for 2½ hours, until tender. Unwrap ribs and baste with a few tablespoons of barbecue sauce.

  7. 7

    4. Grill or broil ribs a few minutes on each side until browned and crispy. Cut ribs and toss with additional sauce in a bowl.

About this Recipe

Craving authentic Kansas City-style ribs without firing up the grill? This oven-baked recipe delivers incredibly fall-off-the-bone tender ribs right from your kitchen, making classic barbecue flavors accessible to everyone.

The secret to these exceptionally tender ribs lies in the slow, controlled heat of the oven, allowing the meat to gently cook down to succulent perfection. A rich, sweet, and tangy homemade barbecue sauce, featuring molasses and apple cider vinegar, complements a deeply savory dry rub to build layers of irresistible flavor.

Prepare your senses for a truly satisfying barbecue experience. You'll bite into ribs so tender the meat practically melts off the bone, coated in a glistening, complex sauce that perfectly balances sweetness from dark brown sugar and molasses with the tang of apple cider vinegar and a subtle kick from cayenne pepper and chili powder. The aromatic dry rub, with its blend of smoked paprika, garlic, onion, and celery seed, creates a foundation of deep, savory flavor that permeates every bite, creating a harmonious and utterly delicious dish.

Customization & Variations

This recipe offers a fantastic base for home cooks. You can easily adjust the level of heat by increasing or decreasing the amount of cayenne pepper in the sauce. For a slightly different flavor profile, consider adding a pinch more smoked paprika to the dry rub for an even deeper smoky note. While dark brown sugar and molasses are key to the traditional Kansas City profile, you can experiment with the sauce's sweetness balance if desired.

These oven-baked Kansas City-style ribs are perfect for family dinners, game day gatherings, or any occasion when you want to impress with minimal fuss. Serve them alongside classic barbecue sides like coleslaw, corn on the cob, or baked beans for a complete, crowd-pleasing meal that evokes the spirit of a backyard cookout.
