    2 cloves

    1 tbsp

    1 tbsp
  • fresh chopped parsley

    optional for serving

Directions

  1. 1

Season steak with salt, pepper, and garlic powder on both sides.

  2. 2

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add steaks and brown for 1-2 minutes on each side. Remove from pan and transfer to a 6-quart slow cooker. You may need to do this step in batches. Wipe pan with a paper towel to remove excess grease.

  3. 3

Add onion and 1 cup beef broth to crockpot.

  4. 4

Melt butter in same pan over medium heat. Add mushrooms and cook for 2-3 minutes. Add garlic and flour and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until flour has cooked down and lightly browned.

  5. 5

Pour in remaining ¾ cup beef broth and use a whisk or spatula to scrape the brown bits off the bottom of the pan.

  6. 6

Add cream, Worcestershire sauce, and Italian seasoning. Simmer for 1-2 minutes, or until it has thickened. Carefully pour gravy over steaks and onions. Cover crockpot with lid and cook on LOW for 6-8 hours, or on HIGH for 4 hours.

  7. 7

Once time is up, remove steaks from crockpot and set aside. Whisk together cornstarch and cold water in a small bowl until smooth. Stir slurry into the crockpot and cook on high with the lid off for 5-10 minutes, or until gravy thickens.

  8. 8

Garnish with fresh chopped parsley, if desired. Serve immediately.

About this Recipe

Craving a meal that feels like a warm hug, perfect for any night of the week? This Slow Cooker Cube Steak and Gravy recipe delivers incredibly tender beef, enveloped in a rich, homemade gravy, turning an ordinary weeknight into a comforting Sunday supper.

Unlike many recipes relying on canned soups, this version features a scratch-made gravy built from the ground up with savory beef broth, rich unsalted butter, and decadent heavy whipping cream. Cooking the cube steak low and slow in your slow cooker ensures every bite is fall-apart tender, absorbing all the delicious flavors of the aromatic onion, garlic, and earthy baby bella mushrooms.

Prepare for an undeniably hearty and satisfying dinner. You'll enjoy fork-tender cube steak that practically melts in your mouth, generously coated in a luxuriously thick, flavorful gravy. The richness from the heavy cream is beautifully balanced by the umami notes of Worcestershire sauce, the savory depth of mushrooms, and the classic warmth of Italian seasoning. This dish truly captures the essence of home-cooked comfort, all with the ease of your trusty slow cooker.

For those who prefer a simpler dish, the baby bella mushrooms can be easily omitted without sacrificing the core flavors. If you find yourself without fresh garlic, a little extra garlic powder can be used in a pinch. While heavy cream provides the ultimate richness for the gravy, a slightly lighter cream could be substituted, though the final texture and richness might vary slightly.

This Slow Cooker Cube Steak and Gravy is a perfect main course for cozy family dinners, offering satisfying comfort without fuss. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley for a bright, herbaceous finish, elevating your weeknight meal into a truly special culinary experience.
