How to Save Recipes from Instagram

Instagram recipes come in three shapes: the recipe written in the caption, the recipe on the creator's website behind a link, and the "comment RECIPE and I'll send it" post. Here is how to keep each one so you can actually cook from it later.

Option 1: Instagram Saved collections

Tap the bookmark icon under the Reel or post. To keep recipes apart from everything else you save, press and hold the bookmark (or pick a collection when Instagram offers one) and make a collection called "Recipes".

Saved works as a reminder list, not a cookbook. You cannot search it by ingredient, you have to rewatch the Reel to cook from it, and a saved post vanishes if the creator deletes or archives it.

Option 2: Follow the recipe link

Many creators keep the full written recipe on their own website, with exact quantities that the Reel skips. Look in two places:

  • The caption. Tap "more" to expand it. Some creators paste the whole recipe there, others paste a link.
  • The bio. "Recipe link in bio" means the link is on the creator's profile, often behind a link page that lists their recent recipes.

Once you are on the recipe page, paste its address into the ad-free recipe tool to get the ingredients and steps without the ads. Recipe websites import for free.

Option 3: "Comment for the recipe" posts

Some creators ask you to comment a word such as RECIPE, and an automated reply sends you the link by direct message. You can do that yourself and then follow the link as in option 2. If you would rather not comment from your own account, a recipe app can handle it for you (see below).

Option 4: Screenshot or type it out

For a private account you follow, or a post where the recipe only appears as text on the images, screenshots are the reliable fallback. Swipe through every slide of a carousel post, since the ingredient list is often on the second or third image. To turn screenshots or rough notes into a clean recipe, type the text into the recipe formatter.

Option 5: Save it to a recipe app

A recipe app that reads Instagram links handles all three shapes at once. In Only Recipes:

  1. In Instagram, tap the Share icon (the paper plane), then Copy link.
  2. Paste it into the Instagram importer on the web, or into the Only Recipes app. On iPhone and Android you can also pick Only Recipes from the share sheet.
  3. Only Recipes follows a recipe link in the caption when there is one. For a "comment for the recipe" post it comments from its own account and waits briefly for the reply. Otherwise it reads the caption and a transcript of the video.
  4. Check the ingredients and steps, then save.

Instagram imports need Only Recipes Premium. A link in the creator's bio is not followed automatically, so for "link in bio" posts, open the bio link yourself and import that page, which is free.
