About this Recipe
Craving a classic, hearty sandwich that transports you straight to your favorite deli? This Shaved Steak French Dip with Swiss delivers that beloved, savory experience right to your kitchen, proving that some of the best comfort foods are often the easiest to make. You'll love sinking your teeth into this warm, cheesy masterpiece.
What makes this French Dip so satisfying is the clever combination of rich flavors and convenient ingredients. The au jus, crafted from a simple onion soup mix, robust beef stock, and a hint of Worcestershire, provides a deeply savory complement to the tender shaved steak. This approach ensures a flavorful dipping sauce with minimal effort, allowing you to enjoy a restaurant-quality meal without the fuss.
Get ready for a truly comforting and flavorful experience. Each bite offers tender, seasoned shaved steak, perfectly melted Swiss cheese, all nestled within a toasted sub or hoagie bun. The star of the show, of course, is the accompanying au jus – a warm, peppery, and incredibly savory broth that brings all the elements together. It’s a substantial sandwich, with a satisfying 598 calories per serving, making it an ideal choice for a filling lunch or a cozy dinner.
While the classic Swiss cheese is delightful, you can easily customize your French Dip. Feel free to swap it for provolone or even a white cheddar for a different flavor profile. If you can't find shaved steak, thinly sliced roast beef can also be used, though it may change the texture slightly. Experiment with different types of toasted buns, from crusty baguettes to softer hoagie rolls, to find your perfect match.
This French Dip is perfect for a casual weeknight dinner or a weekend gathering with friends. Serve it alongside a simple green salad or some crispy potato chips for a complete and utterly delicious meal. The richness of the au jus and the heartiness of the steak and cheese make it a comforting dish for any occasion.
