About this Recipe
Looking for a comforting, flavor-packed dinner that practically cooks itself? Al's Baked Swiss Steak delivers a robust, satisfying meal perfect for any night of the week.
The beauty of this baked Swiss steak lies in its slow, gentle cooking process, allowing the boneless beef round steak to become incredibly tender. Smothered in a rich sauce brimming with stewed tomatoes, aromatic vegetables like onion, green bell pepper, and garlic, every bite is infused with deep, savory goodness.
Prepare for a truly heartwarming experience. This dish features fork-tender beef, braised to perfection, beneath a blanket of vibrant, sweet-and-savory stewed tomatoes and perfectly cooked vegetables. The savory blend of seasoned salt, ground black pepper, and a hint of Worcestershire sauce permeates the beef, creating a deeply satisfying flavor profile. A generous topping of sharp cheddar cheese adds a delightful, creamy finish that complements the robust flavors of the sauce. It's a hearty, fulfilling dish that feels gourmet yet is incredibly straightforward to prepare.
While delicious as is, you can easily adapt Al's Baked Swiss Steak. For a different flavor, consider using diced fire-roasted tomatoes instead of regular stewed tomatoes. If you prefer a milder cheese, Monterey Jack or even a blend of Italian cheeses could work in place of the sharp cheddar. You can also vary the vegetables based on what you have on hand; a parsnip or mushroom could add another layer of earthy flavor.
This baked Swiss steak is the ultimate comfort food, ideal for a cozy family dinner or a relaxed gathering. Serve it alongside creamy mashed potatoes or fluffy rice to soak up every last drop of the rich sauce, or with a simple green salad for a balanced meal.
