Crockpot Salisbury Steak

We make ground beef patties and briefly sear those and some mushrooms. Add spices and liquids, transfer everything to our slow cooker, and let it do its work. The result is an incredibly delicious Crockpot Salisbury Steak.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef

    lean

  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup bread crumbs
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • ½ teaspoon salt
    plus more to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
    plus more to taste
  • 8 ounces mushrooms

    sliced

  • 2 teaspoons garlic

    minced

  • 1 tablespoons Lipton Onion Soup Mix
  • 1 10.5-can ounces cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 ½ cups beef broth
  • 1 1-ounce packet gravy mix
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Directions

  1. 1

Mix ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, Worcestershire sauce, Lipton onion soup mix, Dijon mustard, salt, and black pepper in a large bowl until well combined.

  2. 2

Divide beef mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a burger patty.

  3. 3

Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties to the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown. After cooking, move the patties to the slow cooker.

  4. 4

Using the same skillet, add sliced mushrooms and minced garlic. Cook for 3-4 minutes, or until the mushrooms have softened, then transfer them to the slow cooker with the patties.

  5. 5

In a separate medium bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, gravy mix, and Italian seasoning. Whisk until smooth. To adjust the thickness of the gravy, add more or less beef broth as desired. For a thicker gravy, mix in 1-2 tablespoons of cornstarch or 2-3 tablespoons of flour dissolved in cold water and then add to the gravy.

  6. 6

Pour the gravy mixture over the patties and mushrooms in the slow cooker.

  7. 7

Cover the slow cooker and set it to cook on low for 4-6 hours, or until the patties are fully cooked and reach an internal temperature of 160° Fahrenheit.

  8. 8

Serve the Salisbury steak with gravy and your choice of sides, such as mashed potatoes, green beans, cauliflower rice, egg noodles, or your favorite.

About this Recipe

Craving the ultimate comfort food without the fuss? This Crockpot Salisbury Steak recipe brings tender ground beef patties smothered in a rich, savory gravy right to your dinner table with minimal effort.

The magic of this dish lies in the slow cooker, allowing the flavors of savory beef, earthy mushrooms, and a deeply seasoned gravy to meld together for hours. Briefly searing the patties and mushrooms before adding them to the crockpot develops crucial caramelized flavors, creating a depth that elevates this beyond a simple dump-and-go meal and sets it apart from other Salisbury steak recipes.

You'll be rewarded with incredibly tender ground beef patties, swimming in a thick, rich, and deeply savory gravy. The combination of Lipton Onion Soup Mix, cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, and gravy mix creates a wonderfully complex and comforting sauce that coats every bite. The earthy notes from the mushrooms and the subtle tang of Worcestershire sauce and Dijon mustard perfectly complement the robust beef flavor.

This is hearty, stick-to-your-ribs comfort food, perfect for a cozy evening, with a satisfyingly smooth texture that truly melts in your mouth.

Want to try a slight variation? For a richer onion flavor, you could add more Lipton Onion Soup Mix to taste. If you prefer a milder mushroom presence, you could reduce the amount, or if you love them, add a few more ounces of mushrooms. You could also experiment with different types of ground beef, though the lean variety specified helps keep the patties from being overly greasy.

Serve this heartwarming Crockpot Salisbury Steak over creamy mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or white rice to soak up every last drop of that incredible gravy. A simple green salad or steamed vegetables would make a wonderfully complete meal.
