Impossible™ Cheesesteak Recipe

Impossible™ Cheesesteak Recipe

This Impossible Cheesesteak recipe will save you a trip to Philadelphia—and also help save the planet. The term “comfort food” gets thrown around a lot these days, but cheesesteaks certainly meet the mark. After all, what’s better than gooey cheese, caramelized onion, and perfectly-cooked beef, all layered together in harmony on a hoagie? A cheesesteak featuring meat made from plants, that’s what. Better for you, better for the planet, and totally easy to make. Cheesesteaks are simple sandwiches with just a few ingredients, but those ingredients do a lot of work, so it’s important to get each one right. Once you have everything prepped and ready, you’re that much closer to enjoying your Impossible Cheesesteak. First things first: Every cheesesteak connoisseur knows that properly caramelized onions are crucial to achieving that trademark flavor, and the old rules certainly apply here. Thinly slice three white onions, toss them in a pot with cola and a pinch of salt, and cook down until the cola is gone—but don’t burn it! It may seem like a lot of onions at first, but in the end it will be the perfect amount. The cheese sauce is the easy part; simply melt the cheese in a pot with some water and whisk until blended. After you’ve browned the Impossible™ Beef and added the caramelized onions to it, all that’s left is to assemble the sandwiches on your hoagie rolls and broil in the oven for about 20 seconds. Now you’re all set. Delicious, easy, authentic, homemade cheesesteak sandwiches with Impossible Beef. No need to fly to Philly! This recipe makes enough for three cheesesteaks, but you’re not obligated to share.

Ingredients

  • 12 Ounce Package Impossible™ Beef
  • 3 Cups Cola
  • 7 Ounces Water
  • 3 Six-Inch Hoagie Rolls
  • 3 White Onions
  • 7 Ounces American Cheese
  • 3 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil
  • Salt and Pepper To Taste

Directions

  1. 1

Thinly slice the onion. Combine the sliced onion, cola, and a pinch of salt in a small pot and heat to a simmer. Cook down until the onions are reduced and the cola is completely evaporated. Be careful not to burn them!

  2. 2

To make the cheese sauce, combine cheese and water in a small sauce pot and bring to medium heat. Whisk until fully incorporated, and keep warm for serving. *Make it 100% plant-based by using plant-based cheese.

  3. 3

Heat the oil in a non-stick pan on medium-high heat. Crumble the Impossible Beef into the pan and sear while stirring. Add salt and fresh cracked pepper to taste.

  4. 4

Once the Impossible Beef is cooked, stir in caramelized onion. Place this mixture on 6-inch hoagie roll, and top with cheese sauce. Place your assembled sandwich in the oven and set to broil for approximately 20 seconds, or until the cheese is melted.

  5. 5

    Makes three cheesesteak sandwiches.
