About this Recipe
Craving the unmistakable, legendary taste of a true Philly Cheesesteak sandwich, without having to travel to the City of Brotherly Love? This authentic 20-minute recipe brings the genuine article right to your kitchen, designed to deliver that iconic flavor profile you've been searching for.
What makes this Philly Cheesesteak truly special and sets it apart is a deep understanding of its heritage. Unlike many imitators, this recipe insists on extra-virgin olive oil for grilling—a crucial element that, according to our Philadelphia-born expert, is often overlooked but essential for that authentic taste. The use of thinly sliced Provolone cheese instead of modern alternatives is another non-negotiable for traditional flavor, melding perfectly with the savory meat and soft roll.
When you bite into this sandwich, expect a symphony of textures and flavors. The incredibly tender, wafer-thin roast beef marries beautifully with the sautéed white onion and, optionally, the crisp-tender green bell pepper. The Provolone melts into a rich, creamy blanket, uniting all the ingredients within a perfectly soft hoagie or sub roll. It's a satisfyingly hearty lunch or a substantial snack that transports you straight to a classic Philadelphia luncheonette.
While the essence of this authentic Philly Cheesesteak lies in adhering to its roots, the recipe does offer a couple of choices. You can include green bell pepper for an added layer of freshness and crunch, or enjoy the sandwich without it. For a final flourish, consider topping your creation with a spoonful of marinara sauce or a squeeze of ketchup, as per your preference. To truly experience the authentic taste our Philadelphia expert intended, sticking to the specified extra virgin olive oil, Provolone cheese, and wafer-thin roast beef is key.
This robust and flavorful Philly Cheesesteak is ideal for a quick, satisfying lunch or a hearty afternoon snack. Serve it hot, straight from the grill, as the centerpiece of a simple, comforting meal.
