The crushed saltine crackers and whole milk keep the ground beef patties incredibly tender and moist, ensuring every bite is flavorful and comforting. It’s a smart way to transform simple ingredients into something truly memorable.
Prepare for a truly comforting and savory meal. The ground beef patties, seasoned expertly with a blend of Italian seasoning, garlic, onion, and a hint of cayenne, become succulent and tender. They're nestled in a luxurious, creamy mushroom gravy, creating a dish that feels much more elaborate than its easy preparation. This is a straightforward recipe, perfect for any home cook looking to bring a satisfying meal to the table in about an hour. It's designed to feed a crowd, yielding 8 generous servings.
While the original recipe is fantastic, feel free to adjust the spice level by reducing or increasing the cayenne pepper to suit your taste. You can also experiment with different dried herbs if you don't have Italian seasoning on hand. If whole milk isn't available for the patties, other milks can be used, though the richness might vary slightly.
This hearty Poor Man's Steak is a fantastic centerpiece for a cozy family dinner. It pairs wonderfully with classic comfort sides like mashed potatoes, rice, or even buttered noodles, which can soak up that rich, savory gravy beautifully.
